In October 2022, we received notification of the detection of phosphonic acid (a fungicide not covered by Eurofins’ standard pesticide testing panel) in a batch of chaga. As soon as we were made aware of this we re-tested all batches of raw material and launched a full investigation covering all stages of raw material collection, transportation and processing.
The conclusions of this investigation are as follows:
1. During the collection of raw materials in this batch, the pickers did not follow the correct organic operating procedure and used some pesticide-contaminated bagging material, resulting in the contamination of the raw chaga.
2. Other finished products (powders and extracts) made from the same batch of raw chaga have the same pesticide residues.
3. Other batches of chaga as well as other wild-harvested species were also tested and no contamination was found
Therefore in accordance with the requirements of organic product management and with the approval of our organic certifier the following batches of finished product have been downgraded from organic to non-organic:
Chaga Powder: YZKP08210419
Chaga Extract: YZKE08210517 , YZKE08210823 , YZKE08220215, JC202203001, JC2206002 and JC2012207002
Please contact relevant sales staff for follow-up resolution.
Other Chaga batches as well as all other mushroom products remain unaffected.
Johncan mushroom sincerely apologises for this quality incident and the disruption caused.
Sincerely
