De bekendste commerciële polysaccharopeptidepreparaten van Trametes versicolor zijn Polysaccharopeptide Krestin (PSK) en polysaccharopeptide PSP. Beide producten worden verkregen door de extractie van Trametes versicolor mycelia.
PSK en PSP zijn respectievelijk Japanse en Chinese producten. Beide producten worden verkregen door batchfermentatie. PSK-fermentatie duurt maximaal 10 dagen, terwijl PSP-productie een cultuur van 64 uur omvat. PSK wordt teruggewonnen uit heetwaterextracten van de biomassa door uitzouten met ammoniumsulfaat, terwijl PSP wordt teruggewonnen door alcoholische precipitatie uit het heetwaterextract.
Polysaccharide-K (PSK of krestin), gewonnen uit T. versicolor, wordt in Japan als veilig beschouwd voor gebruik als aanvullende therapie voor de behandeling van kanker, waar het bekend staat als kawaratake (dakpanpaddestoel) en is goedgekeurd voor klinisch gebruik. Als glycoproteïnemengsel is PSK onderzocht in klinisch onderzoek bij mensen met verschillende vormen van kanker en immuundeficiënties, maar de werkzaamheid ervan blijft vanaf 2021 onduidelijk.
