Cordyceps militaris is a unique and precious medical fungus in Chinese Cordyceps, which has been widely used as biocontrol agents in China for centuries.
Cordycepin was separated successfully from Cordyceps militaris using extraction with water only under a certain of temperature, or a mixture of ethanol and water. Optimum temperature, water or composition of ethanol in water, solvent/solid ratio and pH of solvent were determined with respect to extraction yield. The highest yield for cordycepin (90%+) was predicted by the regression model and validated by comparison with the experimental results, showing good agreement. The RP-HPLC method was applied to analyze cordycepin from Cordyceps militaris extracts, and 100% purity of cordycepin was achieved. The extraction characteristics were investigated in terms of equilibrium and kinetics.
Some tips about the difference between CS-4 and Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris
1. CS-4 stands for cordyceps sinensis number 4 fungal strain ----Paecilomyces hepiali --- this is a endoparasitic fungus that commonly exists in the natural cordyceps sinensis.
2. Paecilomyces hepiali was isolated from the natural cordyceps sinensis, and inoculated on the artificial substrates (solid or liquid ) to grow. This is a process of fermentation. solid substrate ---solid status fermentation (SSF), liquid substrate---Submerged fermentation (SMF).
3. So far only cordyceps militaris (this is another strain of cordyceps) 's mycelium and fruiting body has cordycepin . and there is another one strain of cordyceps (Hirsutella sinensis ) , also has cordycepin . But Hirsutella sinensis is only mycelium available .
